Eskimo hats. Given the eskimo trend that rose this winter, knitted and fur hats are everywhere. While some opt for the traditional beanie, others have fallen in love with the animal knit hats. The bold go for the trapper hats with earflaps, probably one of the most efficient when it comes to keeping warm.

Tight-fitting gloves vs. fingerless gloves. This is one of those few trends which is open to choice of the wearer. While tight-fitting leather or suede gloves may pamper your hands, fingerless gloves can give an urban appeal to an outfit. Tight gloves are more for the sophisticated and dainty girl. Fingerless gloves coincide with the laidback and fun girl. Either types of gloves can add a pop of color to your outfit.

Lace. Especially with the women's lingerie trend still on the fashion scene, lace will be appearing in dress shirts and holiday dresses this winter. While lace can be sensual and fun to wear, be sure to wear it in layers to keep yourself warm. A lace neccessity for this season will be the patterned black dress.

Knitted sweaters. Turns out that chunky sweater grandma knit for you last Christmas might come in handy this year. Oversized knit sweaters are especially in this winter as they can be paired with either jeans or tights for a chic and cozy outfit.

Infinity scarves. Call it a circle scarf or an infinity scarf, these pieces add great texture to a plain top. Loop an infinity scarf around the neck twice to provide maximum warmth. Pick a spontaneous hue such as royal blue, coral, or yellow for a pop of color to your ensemble.

Honeysuckle. Not just pink. According to Pantone Color Institute, the hot pinkish tone is the new turquoise. An optimistic and exotic color, honeysuckle is Pantone's Color of the Year for 2011. Once January comes around, avoid those winter blues with rosy pinks-err honeysuckles.

One of my recent assignments at The Mash gave me the opportunity to interview fashion connoisseur, Bobbie Thomas. She was this year's host for the Liz Claiborne collection at JcPenney. Upbeat gal. Great preview.

"Bobbie Thomas, Style Editor for NBC’s Today Show and blogger on bobbiet.com, made an appearance at Lombard’s JcPenney to host this year’s fall Liz Claiborne collection preview. She focused heavily on layers and playing with patterns. Although she recognizes the Claiborne collection mainly targets older women, she says in putting together the outfits she tried to give the collection “a youthful nod.”

What are your favorite trends you used in the preview?

I love layers. I experimented with different lengths and different textures. I also like that these pieces independently can stand on their own as a staple or a classic, but I do think they have a little of a current contemporary edge to them.

Material fashion aside, what do you think it takes to be a stylist?

I think it’s really important to get to know people. Sometimes, we stare so much at clothes. The more you get to know who you are dressing as a stylist, the better stylist you are going to be. Style is self-expression and you are supposed to help the person wear a layer which is an extension of who they are.

What do you think is the must-have fashion item this season?

I think the biggest fashion must-have any season, any year, any age is confidence. If I had to pick something for this season that I see so much of, I think right now sweaters are making a statement. In general, we are seeing a comeback of the statement sweater. Even for men, it is the Cosby sweater is kind of back. It is really cool seeing guys wear the sweater vests. People are having fun with textures, layers, and quirky prints."

For the most part, we want conservative tops closing at the collar.

faux pas: Do not try to pass off the schoolgirl combo as an everyday outfit. The only way knee high socks paired with plaid skirts are seen as remotely acceptable anymore is on Halloween, if at all. The schoolgirl outfit was trendy once, but is frowned upon by fashionistas today and overdone.

faux pas: It may work on runway shows, but never try on it on the streets! Plaid on plaid does not work. Such attempt will result in a motley mess. Instead, try plaid against a neutral color like gray or navy blue to give the plaid pattern a pop in your outfit.

'80s comeback

The beginning of the school year marked the return of hitting the books for some and scouring Staples for cheap supplies for others. For me, it was both and working on an article about '80s fashion comebacks with a little editing from another fellow Mash member.

"Leg warmers. Shoulder pads. Acid-washed jeans. For some, this is a neon portal into the past's most notorious time for fashion—the eighties. But for Jason Branscum, employee at Hollywood Mirror, these items are sweeping the store's sales. Liz Meyer, owner at Silver Moon has seen mini-skirts and vintage jackets wiped off the racks at her boutique, despite the basis of the vintage store being 1920s-30s trends.

“If we could clay the ‘80s trends we sell into an ‘80s icon, it would probably be ‘Saved by the Bell’,” Branscum said, “It has a jock prep appeal.”

Fashion of the eighties is reawakening. Current styles are creatively clad with eighties-inspired pieces, making an already unique era of fashion an innovative addition to many people's wardrobes. Last school year, there were promises of an ‘80s fashion comeback, and, this fall, TheMash is back to prove it.

Kokorokoko, a small Ukranian Village vintage shop, is all about the ‘80s and early ‘90s fashion, targeting 1989 fans. From geometric inspired clothing, to windbreakers, to patterned spandex, owner, Sasha Hodges believes her shop tends to gravitate towards prints.

“Our favorite ‘80s trends are probably metallic patterns and jumpsuits,” Hodges said, “And African inspired prints.”

According to fashionising.com, among the styles trending for the fall are socks under shoes and kitten heels. The combination of socks and shoes closely mimics the legwarmers over heels trend from the ‘80s. At once, the kitten heels returning remind fashionistas that height on footwear was used sparingly in the ‘80s.

At Hollywood Mirror, employees like to keep the traditional ‘80s trends incorporated into their fall fashion must-haves list.

“I think the ‘80s must-have item for fall is leg warmers,” Branscum said, “We also like members only jackets.”

Meanwhile, some disagree with the possibility that ‘80s fashion may be making a return. Other well-known stores such as Forever 21 are attempting to bring new decades back to the fashion scene.

“I don’t see much ‘80s,” Aaliyah Salh, a Forever employee said, “But I think the ‘90s are making a definite comeback here.”

One of Forever’s latest themes, “Seattle ‘90s,” features grunge denim jeans, plaid and denim jackets arousing faint memories of tween Britney Spears and Alicia Silverstone in “Clueless.”

Yet, right next to the “Seattle ‘90s” feature, stands a display of neon apparel, leg warmers and Cyndi Lauper approved crinoline billowy skirts. And with that, the ‘80s are hanging out for just a while longer.

“I think that the free spirit that tags along with the over-the-top style is appealing to people,” Hodges said, “The ’80s were the pinnacle of look-at-me fashion."

I'm not a die hard fan for the whole Alice in Wonderland theme. The new movie coming out soon kinda gives me the creepies. Johnny Depp always does a great job at getting into character and thus, most of the time, gives me a nightmare or two.

Then again, the underlying meaning behind Alice in Wonderland is meant to be scary in a way. Behind the enchanted story there's said to be sexual references, Freudian psychology (references to the id and ego) as well as political satire. I don't want to get off topic but if you're interested in that kind of stuff I'd refer you to http://www.alice-in-wonderland.net/alice8.html. Interesting stuff.

Anyways, I've seen both Alice and Wonderland in 2010 trends and makeup themes that I do like. They might even be of inspiration for some of my future outfits, makeup and accessories.

There is, of course, the people that decide to take this theme all the way. You gotta admit though, that charm bracelet is one piece of work.

Overall, Sephora has pretty reliable makeup. And this palette on the contrary to the movie, is to die for. It has beautiful, vibrant colors as well your spring essentials like peach, neutral and coral colors.

Bunny Noggin' Ring

White Rabbit, much? It sure reminded me of him. I don't wear rings often since I'm always writing or have my hands busy, but this one is pretty cute even for a person with a lot on her hands.

This bow can't possible scream Alice any louder. The blue mimics the color of her dress and the veil adds a modern, rocker chic element to it. And. Big bows are definitely in this season.

[sak-ruh-men-toh]. I like the way that rolls off my tongue. Effortlessly. No lofty letters to get in the way. No wrong way to pronounce it, really. There's something about California in general that's very calming. Intriguing. Hypnotic, almost.

This summer I decided to take a trip over there to meet some of my relatives. It took me a while to convince Mom and Dad to let me go on my own.

Turns out, my cousin is a photographer. I'm not as camera crazy as he is.

But since I was covering the costs, they decided it'd be a good "life learning" experience. Little did I know these would two of the best weeks of my entire summer.

I'm a sucker for fashion. Limited budget does not equal limited taste. Shopping at mainstream stores like Charlotte Russe or that cute little boutique everyone's asking about is my type of thing. Way psyched about spring and summer 2010 trends, so I decided to fill my readers in over at Mash.

According to The Skinny (blog.forever21.com), floral and animal prints will come into play once more during this year’s spring season. Dakota Fanning wore a leopard-print dress for the December Teen Vogue, and a replica of it is now available at Forever 21 in its resort collection.

Spring will be the time to pump up the volume, ladies. Stay away from flat and lifeless hairstyles. On an elle.com poll, readers agreed that Drew Barrymore’s dead hair she wore to the Golden Globe Awards wasn't as impressive as the sky-high bouffant Beyonce wore to the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Elle readers also voted for Sandra Bullock’s loose, sideswept bun that she wore to the Golden Globes over the textured and pulled-back hair she sported at the SAGs.

Redheads of both genders, embrace the hair. Red hot locks like those from the Louis Vuitton Spring 2010 show and Coco Rocha for Vogue will be as hot as their color for the year. Recommended hairstyles for both redheads and non redheads, according to Elle, are braids like Lauren Conrad’s and loose buns, such as that one that Sandra Bullock wore to the Golden Globe Awards. According to fashionising.com, 1960s hairstyles will make a rebound, igniting a pin-up girl hair frenzy. Girls, it is time to kick old school again and pull out those hot rollers; there will be no curling irons this time around. As for those who cut their hair to a bob last year, fret not. Elle reports that outgrown bobs will also be in style for the spring season.

Turquoise is officially the color of 2010, and not without reason. According to Pantone, the company chose turquoise as the color of the year for evoking its “soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of well being.” Turquoise already appeared in the Proenza Schoulder Spring 2010 collection, as well as the Jason Wu's 2010 shirts, dresses and harem pants."
